I am Molly Vernon, an award-winning filmmaker with over 70 credits to my name. I work in multiple areas of filmmaking including producing, directing, assistant directing, production management, and also as a writer.
My short and feature film projects have won multiple awards with an international presence for myself and my creative teams. I successfully worked professionally part-time as a filmmaker while simultaneously teaching both theatre and film full-time at San Jacinto College (South and Central Campuses) until my retirement from full-time teaching freed me up to work full-time in filmmaking. I was later recruited to return to teaching part-time as a film adjunct by The Art Institute-Houston, Houston Community College, and College of the Mainland and continue to teach part-time as a film adjunct. I am the recent past Vice-President of Women in Film and Television Houston (WIFT-H). I completed working with SAG-AFTRA talent on a reading of my screenplay “Trashman” for a Script2Screen reading in Houston, Texas. I was also the production manager of the science fiction feature “Dropa,” which is streaming on multiple platforms and many other projects.
I was professionally partnered with cinematographer Larry McKee in the production company ‘Vernon-McKee,’ where we produced the award-winning short films “Cold War,” “Persistence of Vision,” “The Void,” “Red Pearl,” “Into the Light,” “Biomass,” “Abide,” “Lillian, “Salting the Fly” and “Lady Grey.” I often wrote and directed our projects or worked on others’ projects as a Production Manager or 1st Assistant Director; as Emmy Award-winning Cinematographer, Larry McKee was the Director of Photography. After Larry McKee’s death, I wrote and directed a final film titled ‘Men in Cars’ under the ‘Vernon-McKee’ banner. I rebranded from ‘Vernon-McKee’ to ‘Molly’s Writers Room’ in 2024. I have several projects in the pipeline, which include the horror film “Scream: Legacy 2”, the science fiction TV pilot “I/O (Input-Output),” and the comedy horror “Sexy Nails by Aunt Tootsie,” and the future is bright.
